Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Health and Safety Director and OHS team of experts to develop, communicate, execute, and champion a comprehensive OHS strategy
  • Leverage data, technology, and partnerships with internal leadership to achieve commitment and operationalization of the OHS strategy
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of OHS experts into a high performing organization
  • Maintain thorough understanding of health and safety regulations/requirements and be recognized as a technical expert in this area
  • Strive to eliminate duplicative efforts in managing the health and safety strategy and seek solutions which increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Partner with leaders and business partners at multiple levels to assess and address gaps in OHS programs
  • Develop and provide enablement for program compliance
  • Provide support with regulatory agency engagements, reviews, and responses
  • Leverage evidence-based medical services, compliance, regulatory requirements, quality assurance and clinical best practices to achieve health and safety excellence
  • Ensure accurate interpretation of clinical literature and impact on OHS strategy
  • Take an active role in Safety Management System maintenance, assessment, and continuous improvement
  • Lead Occupational Health and Safety EMR System optimization
  • Provide subject matter expertise for Enterprise Occupational Health and Safety requirements
  • Communicate OHS risks and exposures to senior leaders and partner with them on continuous improvement plans
  • Utilize key performance indicators and data analysis to achieve OHS objectives
  • Manage departmental budget
  • Collaborate with UnitedHealth Group Employee Benefits and Medical Affairs teams
  • Other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of proven Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent, experience
  • 3+ years of experience successfully leading teams responsible for end-to-end OHS programs and systems
  • Proven experience developing experienced, strategic, high performing teams
  • Demonstrated executive presence and experience engaging with executive level leaders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel, as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced health and safety or related degree or certification (CSP, COHN, COHN-S)
  • Experience in healthcare and/or insurance industry
  • Knowledge of CDC, DOT, DOH, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory agencies
  • Proven experience managing organizational growth, change, and resiliency

All employees working remotely must adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy. Pay ranges from $110,200 to $188,800 annually. Benefits include comprehensive package, incentives, equity stock purchase, and 401k contribution.
