The Associate Director, Logistics and Distribution Technology at Merck will report to the Director, Logistics and Distribution Technology and be responsible for providing subject matter expert technical support for the global distribution and logistics of human health drug substances, drug products, and finished goods. This role leads a team of technical experts within the Packaging Technical Operations organization, delivering robust solutions for new product commercialization and ensuring compliant supply. Responsibilities include mentoring staff, designing and qualifying complex tertiary packaging systems, analyzing shipping solutions for temperature and physical protection, supporting internal and external manufacturing sites and third-party logistics providers, applying distribution science for new product introductions and technology transfers, driving risk management and continuous improvement, resolving excursion issues, maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance with cGMP, cGDP, and global regulations. The position requires a BS with 12 years of relevant experience, an MS with 10 years, or a PhD with 8 years in packaging, mechanical, chemical, biochemical engineering, pharmaceutical science, or related fields, along with expertise in distribution technologies, package development, qualification, and leadership of technical teams. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
