John Deere is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer – Engine Management Systems for JD Horicon Works in Horicon, WI. In this onsite role, you will develop utility vehicles and premium turf products, lead the design and development of EMS hardware and software for small internal combustion engines (1–4 cylinders), and act as a subject matter expert for EMS components, including sensors, actuators, and control modules. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and field support, lead team members as a matrix manager, work with suppliers to define technical requirements and track deliverables, translate system-level requirements into detailed EMS specifications, support validation and testing efforts, and engage with stakeholders to align product features and technical trade-offs. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
Required skills include 5+ years of EMS design, integration, and diagnostics experience for small spark-ignited and diesel engines; 5+ years of electronic hardware design experience with microcontrollers, analog/digital circuits, and electronics manufacturing; 3+ years of experience with J1939 CAN or NMEA 2000 protocols, including diagnostics; strong understanding of internal combustion engine operation, emissions control, and calibration; hands-on experience with sensors and actuators; familiarity with EMC standards; ability to work independently in office and field environments; and excellent communication and leadership skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience developing vehicle electrical systems in agriculture, turf, recreational vehicles (strongly preferred), automotive, or construction; familiarity with functional safety standards ISO 26262 and ISO 25119; experience with diagnostic protocols J1939 DMA, UDS, OBD/OBDII; embedded software development in Agile environments; and project management experience.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
